A delicious and savory recipe for crispy honey glazed pork belly, featuring a sweet and sticky glaze.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1.5 pounds pork belly
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 3 tablespoons honey
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 2 teaspoons garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Prepare the Pork Belly:
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Pat the pork belly dry with paper towels.
- Score the skin of the pork belly with a sharp knife, creating a criss-cross pattern.
- Season with salt and pepper.
- Cook the Pork Belly:
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large ovenproof skillet over medium-high heat.
- Place the pork belly in the skillet, skin side down, and sear until golden brown, about 4-5 minutes.
- Flip the pork belly and sear the other side for another 2-3 minutes.
- Transfer the skillet to the oven and roast for about 30-40 minutes, or until the pork belly is cooked through and the skin is crispy.
- Prepare the Glaze:
- In a small saucepan, combine honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, garlic, and ginger.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer over low heat, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly.
- Glaze and Serve:
- Remove the pork belly from the oven and brush generously with the honey glaze.
- Sprinkle sesame seeds over the top.
- Return the pork belly to the oven and broil on high for 2-3 minutes until the glaze is bubbling and caramelized.
- Allow the pork belly to rest for a few minutes before slicing into bite-sized pieces.
Notes
- For extra crispy skin, ensure the pork belly is as dry as possible before cooking.
- Adjust the sweetness of the glaze by varying the amount of honey to your taste preference.
- Use a meat thermometer to ensure the pork has reached an internal temperature of at least 145°F (63°C) for safety.
- Let the pork belly rest before cutting to allow the juices to redistribute, ensuring a more flavorful and juicy bite.
