Description

A delicious and savory recipe for crispy honey glazed pork belly, featuring a sweet and sticky glaze.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 pounds pork belly
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pork Belly:
    • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
    • Pat the pork belly dry with paper towels.
    • Score the skin of the pork belly with a sharp knife, creating a criss-cross pattern.
    • Season with salt and pepper.
  2. Cook the Pork Belly:
    • Heat the vegetable oil in a large ovenproof skillet over medium-high heat.
    • Place the pork belly in the skillet, skin side down, and sear until golden brown, about 4-5 minutes.
    • Flip the pork belly and sear the other side for another 2-3 minutes.
    • Transfer the skillet to the oven and roast for about 30-40 minutes, or until the pork belly is cooked through and the skin is crispy.
  3. Prepare the Glaze:
    • In a small saucepan, combine honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, garlic, and ginger.
    • Bring the mixture to a simmer over low heat, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly.
  4. Glaze and Serve:
    • Remove the pork belly from the oven and brush generously with the honey glaze.
    • Sprinkle sesame seeds over the top.
    • Return the pork belly to the oven and broil on high for 2-3 minutes until the glaze is bubbling and caramelized.
    • Allow the pork belly to rest for a few minutes before slicing into bite-sized pieces.

Notes

  • For extra crispy skin, ensure the pork belly is as dry as possible before cooking.
  • Adjust the sweetness of the glaze by varying the amount of honey to your taste preference.
  • Use a meat thermometer to ensure the pork has reached an internal temperature of at least 145°F (63°C) for safety.
  • Let the pork belly rest before cutting to allow the juices to redistribute, ensuring a more flavorful and juicy bite.
