Description

This delicious homemade cinnamon spiced apple pie is perfect for any occasion, featuring tender apples and a flaky crust.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups thinly sliced apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 packet (about 14 ounces) of pie crust dough (or homemade)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pie Crust: Roll out half of the pie crust dough on a lightly floured surface into a 12-inch circle. Fit it into a 9-inch pie plate, ensuring the edges hang over slightly. Chill while preparing the filling.
  2. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  3. Make the Apple Filling: In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples with lemon juice. Add sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Toss the mixture until the apples are well-coated and set aside for 10 minutes.
  4. Assemble the Pie: Spoon the apple mixture into the prepared pie crust. Dot with butter and sprinkle with vanilla extract. Roll out the second half of the pie crust dough and place it over the apple filling. Trim and crimp the edges to seal and cut a few slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
  5. Bake the Pie: Place the pie on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Reduce the oven temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for 35–45 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.

Notes

  • If the crust begins to brown too quickly, cover the edges with foil.
  • Let the pie cool for at least 2 hours before serving to allow the filling to set.
  • Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for an extra treat!
