Description

Delicious miso brownies with a rich, chocolatey flavor and a hint of umami.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup miso paste
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. Melt the unsalted butter in a saucepan over medium heat until golden brown, then let cool slightly.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, granulated sugar, and miso paste until combined.
  4. Add the browned butter, eggs, and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth.
  5. In another bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, folding until just combined.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, smoothing the top.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out mostly clean.
  9. Allow to cool in the pan before cutting into squares.

Notes

  • Make sure to let the butter cool slightly to avoid cooking the eggs.
  • For a richer flavor, use dark chocolate cocoa powder.
