Description

Creepy skull-shaped hand pies with a fruity “bloody” filling for a Halloween treat.

Ingredients

  • Refrigerated pie dough (or homemade)
  • Strawberry or raspberry jam (for “blood”)
  • Cream cheese (optional for filling base)
  • Egg wash (1 egg + 1 tbsp water)
  • Powdered sugar (optional for dusting)
  • Vanilla extract (if adding cream cheese filling)
  • Red food coloring (for extra gore effect)
  • Fresh herbs (parsley or mint for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F and line a baking sheet with parchment.
  2. Roll out dough and cut into circles using a large cutter.
  3. On half the circles, carve creepy skull faces (eyes, nose, mouth).
  4. Spread a spoonful of jam (and cream cheese mixture if desired) on the uncut circles.
  5. Place skull-cut dough on top, crimp edges with a fork to seal.
  6. Brush with egg wash for shine, then bake 18–22 minutes until golden.
  7. Drizzle extra jam over baked pies to create a “bloody” effect; garnish with herbs.

Notes

  • For a more intense flavor, add a few drops of red food coloring to the jam.
  • These hand pies can be made ahead of time and frozen before baking.
  • Serve warm for the best taste and texture.
