Description

An elegant and easy appetizer featuring baked brie topped with fig jam, walnuts, and fresh thyme. Perfect for gatherings!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz. wheel of Brie
  • ¼ cup fig jam
  • ¼ cup finely chopped toasted walnuts (pecans also work)
  • 1 small sprig fresh thyme (finely chopped, for dried use ¼ tsp)
  • 1 tsp orange zest (optional but recommended)
  • pinch coarse salt
  • crackers and sliced baguette (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Place the brie wheel in a small cast iron skillet (or oven-safe dish) just a bit bigger than the brie itself, and then place the skillet on top of a baking sheet (just to catch any possible oozing cheese.) Cut criss-cross slits just through the top of the rind.
  3. Put the fig jam in a small microwave safe bowl and warm in the microwave just to loosen, about 15 seconds. Stir in the chopped nuts, chopped thyme, orange zest, and a pinch of salt.
  4. Pour/spread the fig-nut mixture over the brie, making sure the top is fully covered.
  5. Bake on the middle rack of the pre-heated oven for 10 to 15 minutes or until the brie becomes melted. (TIP: press gently with the back of a spoon to see if the cheese has melted on the inside.)
  6. Remove from the oven and let the brie sit for 3 to 5 minutes. Serve warm with bread, crostini, or crackers!
