Description

Spooky sugar cookies decorated with stitched hearts, X-eyes, and creepy details for a perfect Halloween treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Black and red royal icing (for decoration)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy, then mix in egg and vanilla.
  3. Stir in flour, baking powder, and salt until dough forms. Chill for 30 minutes.
  4. Roll dough to ¼-inch thickness and cut out gingerbread-man-style shapes.
  5. Bake 10–12 minutes until edges are lightly golden.
  6. Once cooled, pipe red icing hearts on each cookie, then outline and stitch with black icing.
  7. Add creepy X-eyes and stitched mouths to finish the voodoo doll effect.

Notes

  • Chilling the dough helps prevent spreading during baking.
  • Use a variety of icing techniques for different spooky effects.
