Description

A delicious recipe for Swedish Meatballs served with creamy mashed potatoes and tender green beans.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef or pork (or mix)
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 3 large potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 2 cups green beans, trimmed
  • ½ cup milk
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • ¼ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • Salt, pepper, and a pinch of nutmeg
  • ½ cup cream (for gravy)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix ground meat, egg, breadcrumbs, salt, and pepper; form small meatballs.
  2. Brown meatballs in a skillet, then remove and set aside.
  3. In the same pan, melt butter, whisk in flour, and cook for 1 minute to make a roux.
  4. Gradually add beef broth and cream; whisk until smooth and thickened. Return meatballs and simmer for 10 minutes.
  5. Boil potatoes until tender, then mash with milk, butter, salt, and pepper.
  6. Steam or sauté green beans until tender-crisp.
  7. Serve meatballs with gravy alongside mashed potatoes and green beans.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use a mix of beef and pork.
  • Adjust seasoning to taste.
  • Leftover meatballs can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
